Every new parent is anxious--waiting to hear their newborn cry out just after delivery, looking for those first indicators of "normal" speech and learning development. Urging them into taking those first steps.
In the Christian life, what are those first steps and signs of healthy development that we should be looking for? In these verses: the work of faith (in you), your labor of love, perservering in hope, provoke me both with what I have seen the frist fruit of, and yet want to stir up again in my life, more and more. Do we ever arrive? Will we ever not long for more? Do we most eagerly long for more fruit in our lives or is our passion and concern even more intense for others in the family we deeply care about?

not exactly a comment regarding this entry, but i'm curious what is the bible version you use in your sermons? want to get my sweetheart a bible and he's mentioned liking the version you use.
What Bible version: I normally use two: most often I have sued the NKJV. However, the newer one I used in Joshua and often refer to is NET (New English Trans). We have several different NET Bibles and a good NKJV study Bible available at the church. We are blessed with so many good Bibles, the best one is one we will read, over and aver again.
I love the fruit anology used in the Bible, it's something sweet, desired, simple yet complex. We were fruit farmers in our previous home state, some lessons learned in the orchard are applicable in our walk w/ the Lord. One comes to mind is we must make ourselves available for growth that results in fruit, it won't happen if we don't do as directed. Secondly, you can't rush the process,it's a moment by moment, day by day process. One way to avail ourselves to the growth mode is to engage in the spritual disiplines. More to come on that topic. See you Sunday.PeachPit
