Joshua 6 -- Jericho

Taking a fresh look at the story, I have one overarching question. Is the lesson for us one of obeying God or of trusting God? Don't try to have it both ways...Choose!
What do you think?

I believe Joshua 6 is showing that the Israelites trusted God. However in my mind trusting and obeying go together. In order for you to take action on what someone is tell you, you have to trust what they are tell you is correct. Then because you believe or trust them you are willing to listen and follow their instruction. However, obeying is a result of first trusting. Israelites had many reason to trust God. He provide them with food and he guide them in the wilderness. This was all done to help them grow in their trust in God. Then each time God ask them to trust him a little further. This was all building to fulfill promise that was made many generation before to Abraham.

So in this case, Israelites trusted God. They believed or trusted what God had instructed them to do. That trust in God cause them to be obedience and follow the instruction God told them to do even though is didn‘t many sense to them. If they didn’t trust God ,they would have had a hard time obeying God’s instruction.

What do you think would have happen if they decide to wall around the wall for five days instead of seven? Would God had delivered Jericho into their hands or would they have had to wait for the passing of another generation that fully trusted Him before He would delivered the land that was promise to their forefathers. I don’t know what would have happen, but I am glad the Israelites trusted God and obey His instruction.

I believe this passage provide a great example of God calling his people to trust him and what happen when they do. Do you trust in God for your salvation? I hope so. I think that is a great first step, but God don‘t want us to stop their. We need to develop are faith or trust in God by trusting Him in all aspects of our lives. When life’s decision come at you, do you talk to God first before you make a decision or do you go with the flow and hope it right? When we trust God and put him first in our lives, who knows what God will ask us to do. However it all start out with trusting him first.

This is a simple answer..... you must obey God.

I think is obeying. Because it's easy to obey when you trust that person(or God), but when you are asked to trust somebody, that kinda acounts for the obeying part...

Trust. You can have trust without obeying (Moses striking the rock) but how can you obey without trust? One can only follow the other because the first is the foundation to the second. ie: "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness", the last two are only available because of the first.

Hebrews 11:6 Without faith/trust/believing its impossible to please God. Obedience flows out of belief that God is good, He is God, and He can be trusted, counted on. Perhaps it is when we are less sure that we should commit/entrust ourselves to God's way or we don't bleive that His will is enough for us, that we go our own way. And then we wind up in Joshua 7 with Achan...
