Winning God's way

The battle of Jericho,
its one of those all-time classics, that oldest story of this oldest city, you've heard it before, or you just haven't been "around."
But, like the narratives before this one, notice the repetition, certain details repeated for emphasis. Why?
And what's with all the marching in circles? Is this any way to win a war? We often talk about "going around in circles" as a bad thing, yet here it was a God thing...
Has there ever been a time when God had you going around in circles, you were tempted to jump off the not-so-merry-go-round, and yet God was working while you were walking?
We want to see deliverance and victory today, but most that's worthwhile calls for sticking it out, staying with God's plan, until you see God work.

Servant of God, continue the march...

The battle of Jericho shows the blessing of being patient and following God’s instructions. The repeating shows the importance of following the exact detail of God’s instruction. God told them what to do and they were obedient and did it. Then out of their obedience to God, God bless them by giving them Jericho.

This is a great example of what parents need to do for their kids. Give clear, simple and yet detail instructions to your kids and tell them what the reward will be if they follow the instructions. Then when the kids have follow the instructions completely they can receive the promised reward.

While not everything is that simple or is completed in a short time frame, it is important to stay faithful and follow God’s instructions. Is it always easy? Does God’s plan for us at the time we are doing it always make sense to us. Probably not. However, when we take a moment and reflect on God’s grace in our lives, I believe that we will see the blessing of being patient and following God’s instruction for our lives.

Any concerns we may have harbored that this series was a prelude to a building program were eliminated with last weeks sermon. That is not the way to rally workmen. This series must be for realsies.

W.F. Good to see your postings.
Good thoughts.

I never get tired of hearing this story or reading the book of Joshua. It is so exciting and filled with stories of God's faithfulness even to flawed people.

Anon,
The only building program we're after is building up God's people to walk an dlive and rejoice in His grace, but trusting Him more instead of relying on ourselves.
Okay, you say Joshua 5 and its elective surgery is not a way to rally support--I suggest that if we could do that one thing, no matter how painful, and then we would be good, have earned God's favor and some special standing before Him, we would do it! What's really uncomfortable is accepting that I cannot do it, I am left with trusting God, clinging to Hs covenant, where He give me life, love, and victory!
